A couple weeks ago we put the finishing touches on the Clifton Road living room. I just realized I never blogged about the process. It just goes to show how fast things have been moving around here. However, I provided sneak peeks on Instagram beginning with the fabric scheme.
The lead fabric is Nympheus by G.P. & J. Baker. Its large, floral print with dark background provided the desired sophistication for a family room that also doubles as a informal living room.
Here’s what the room looked before. Heavy on the traditional side of design.
My goal here was to provide a gratuitous mix of both traditional and contemporary design. How? Starting with fabrics, I selected a looser floral print in a vibrant color palette. Incorporating a true green hue in the fabric mix did wonders for freshening up the space. New custom furniture was a must as well as my favorite sisal rug.
Each classic piece has an updated silhouette that modernizes the furniture plan.
Lastly, I brought in new accent tables and accessories including a wild card, the very modern glass waterfall coffee table!
And look, a television that’s NOT over the fireplace.
We purchased the media console when I designed their previous residence. It works perfectly fine among a few other casual touches in the new space.
The only other items in the room that came from the old house were the oatmeal linen drapery panels. I had my workroom add this red greek key trim to elevate them a bit.
Next up is the adjacent dining room and sunroom. In the dining room I’m going to show you how to update your decor in the presence of oriental rugs. If you have this design dilemma, then you should read this post.
