I could be wrong, but it seems that renovation work comes in waves. What do I mean by that? For the past two years, my jobs have been mostly decoration work. In the past month I’ve been getting more renovation inquiries and have won two new kitchen jobs. As I was searching through some of my previous project photos I came across a whole house renovation I completed for a family who wanted a vacation home in The States. They purchased the home for a steal and wanted to completely transform it into a summer oasis for their seasonal enjoyment.
This entryway transformation was sort of a bonus for them since I hadn’t included it in my original scope of work. I couldn’t resist making these simple upgrades that really skyrocketed this project. Let’s take a look at the before photo.
You can see there wasn’t much to rave about in the dining room with it color-blocked walls and non-descript trimwork. Blah, blah, blah…The middle section is the entry and the farthest room is the formal living room. Removing the existing trim and beefing it up with custom designed pedestals made all the difference in the world. Here are a few progress photos where I documented the transformation. You can also see we removed the old laminate flooring.

Don’t let the toilets distract you. We had some major work going on upstairs, too.
And here is the finished product…Voila!
The new trimwork makes a monumental difference in the feel of the home as well as the new hand-scraped wood planks. They were radiant well before they received a good cleaning!
Simple molding was added below the chair rail and adds much needed elegance to the new dining room. A beautiful fixture doesn’t hurt either.
Here’s a before photo of the entry hall between the two spaces.
You can see the new entrance trim leading to the dining room. we also trimmed out the new sidelights and added crown molding throughout the first floor.
Here it is all painted out and with the new flooring and lighting. What a difference!!
