Neutrals will always have a place in the home but color is currently flourishing in bedding, curtains, paints, fabrics, furniture, and other home furnishings. Color is a great way to spice up your mood and renew the energy in your space. But if you’re typically color shy and prefer a neutral palette, this spring’s eye-catching shades may have you feeling a little overwhelmed. Here are a few tips on how to delicately infuse color into your home and put an end to your color rut.
Sprinkle Color Using Decorative Accents
The safest way to ease into color is by introducing colorful accent pieces and accessories in one of your favorite hues. You can select one bold hue, (i.e. citron yellow) or mix one or two vibrant colors together against a neutral backdrop. Try using color on lamps, pillows, artwork, and rugs.
Divvy Up Color
Designate color to centralized areas in a room. Create a vignette in a hallway or living room and style it using colorful vases and other accent pieces. Also, flowers are a great source of color. If you’re not ready to fully commit to color in your space, experiment with fresh flowers in fun colors that can be displayed nicely on a table or countertop.
Paint The Walls
A sure fire way to liven up a subdued room is to splash color on the walls. Go for the gusto by painting every wall in a room or take a more subtle approach by creating an accent wall in Kelly green or mint. Adding color to an accent wall is also another way to designate color to a specific area in your home.
So are you ready to take the plunge and be color confident this spring?
